Default Metal's versus Smile's

Once in awhile I'll use one of our spinners with a metal blade but most of the time I use the Smile Blade. I have my reasons for why and when I use which one. I want to hear your reasons!

Default won't spin

even the smallest of metal blades will not spin at ultra slow speeds, yet a smile blade will spin with just a breath of movement.
this has been shown at all of our seminars using the fish tank that Jared built

Default Many Reasons

One of the times I use a Mack’s metal blade is in dirty or dingy water. Metal blades put off a u-neek vibration.

Default Diversity

Prior to using smile blades, which goes back to about 1999, metal blades was all I used and I caught a lot of fish with them. Since 2000, it's been all smile blades but in the last few years, I have decided to go back and intergrate metal blades back into my presentation. I still use smile blades about 75% of the time but have found that at times the metal blades produce a fish when smiles did not. Many times it's the other way around but the bottom line is that metal blades have a different vibration and flash than smile blades do.

So I guess the reason I use them both is to just diversify my offerings because you never know what will trigger a walleye on any given day. My favorite metal bladed spinners are the Wedding ring classic series spinners.

Default Vibration is Key

The smile blades are a go to presentation year round but after the water warms up and the fish get more active, I will go with a metal blade as an added presentation to create a different vibration. I always start with a smile blade but sometimes the fish like that "thump" in the water.

I have to agree with both Chads. Until a couple of years ago I used all metal blades, now it's mostly the smile blades. However we all know in the fishing world the bite can change in an instant, day to day, or hour to hour. In order to be successful fishermen or women we have to be able to adapt. The metal blades give off a very distinct vibration. You can do a simple comparsion by using two rods one with a smile blade and one with a metal blade. Lower them into the water at your desired speed and you will be able to feel the difference in the vibration. This is also a good test to see how slow you can go using the smile blades versus the metal blades. I tend to use the metal blades in murky or stained water for the extra thump that they will give off.
